An interview with the music producer with the purpose of discussing golf, his cooperation with Air Jordan, and the objective of his upcoming sneaker collaboration effort
A. MIAMI — Immediately after he is confronted with the inquiry, “Are you able to change into a pair of Air Jordans?” DJ Khaled vanishes into one of the numerous sneaker closets that are located throughout his expansive estate.
Late in the month of July, on Star Island in Miami, it is a hot and humid day. Less than twenty-four hours before DJ Khaled, a producer who has won a Grammy Award, would be hosting his first charity golf tournament, which would benefit his We The Best Foundation, DJ Khaled decided to host the tournament. Additionally, Jordan Brand made a commitment to serve as the event’s principal sponsor.
Jordan has been working with DJ Khaled since 2015, and the brand’s participation served as a demonstration of the long-standing relationship that the company has maintained with DJ Khaled.
Jordan and DJ Khaled collaborated on his first retail release, which was a two-pair set of Air Jordan 5s in the colorways “Sail” and “Crimson Bliss.” This release was released in the fall of last year. The set was released after DJ Khaled had previously acquired a number of special make-ups, such as the Air Jordan 3s, to commemorate the release of his albums, Grateful (2017) and Father of Asahd (2019). These make-ups were only available to his friends and family members of the producer.
A few minutes after DJ Khaled finished an interview with Shannon Sharpe, a former player for the Pro Football Hall of Fame who is now a podcaster, Reggie Saunders, the vice president of entertainment marketing for Jordan Brand, arrived at DJ Khaled’s home. Saunders is responsible for securing Jordan partnerships with some of the most prominent musicians in the music industry, including Drake, Travis Scott, and Billie Eilish, among others. DJ Khaled sneaked upstairs as soon as Saunders arrived in order to replace his all-white Air Force 1s with a pair of Air Jordans from his enormous collection.
The return of DJ Khaled from the upper floor of the home occurred prior to the beginning of the talk. A single sneaker, the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low golf collaboration, which is not anticipated to be released until October, was the only sneaker that he showed off and extended over the balcony.
Andscape had a conversation with DJ Khaled about his recently discovered interest in golf, the relationship he has had with the Jordan Brand over the years, and the things he is hoping to see in his upcoming shoe collaboration. An additional participant in the discussion was Saunders, who is DJ Khaled’s usual golfing buddy.
